Standard registration rates for the inaugural Asia-Pacific Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology Society (APSPOS) Congress are now in effect. What’s more, online registration for the inaugural APSPOS Congress will remain open until the Congress begins. On-site registration will be offered from October 10-12, 2017, at Hong Kong Eye Hospital.  

Please note that the discounted registration category for trainees will not be offered during on-site registration. However, a partial refund can be granted after the Congress has ended, upon submission of the completed trainee declaration form to declaration@apspos.org.

   Opening Remarks and Special Lectures
 

e36359e2-15f5-4095-860b-52b844cbb558.jpgThe Opening Remarks of the inaugural APSPOS Congress will be held from 10:00 to 10:30 am on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Prof. Chak-Sing Lau, President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, will serve as guest of honor for the event. Immediately following the Opening Remarks, APSPOS President Prof. Frank Martin will deliver the congress Keynote Lecture entitled “In Pediatric Ophthalmology, Expect the Unexpected: The ROSAH Syndrome.”

Later in the day, the Plenary Session of the inaugural APSPOS Congress is scheduled for 11:00 am to 12:15 pm, and will feature topics such as congenital glaucoma, Duane syndrome, amblyopia and more. The session’s distinguished speakers include Prof. Kanxing Zhao, Dr. Nafee Gaig Prof. Clement Tham, Dr. Mandy Wong, Dr. Scott Larson, Dr. Ken Nischal, Dr. John Sloper, Dr. Seyhan Ozkan and Dr. Jason Yam.

 
   Travel Grant Selection Results
 

Organizers of the inaugural APSPOS Congress organizers are pleased to announce this year’s selected travel grant recipients. The 3 APSPOS Travel Grants for young ophthalmologists in the Asia-Pacific region are awarded to delegates who have submitted an abstract to APSPOS 2017 and will attend the APSPOS 2017 Congress in Hong Kong as well as the CAPOS/AAPOS meeting in Shanghai. Recipients will be awarded US$500 if they live outside the host country of APSPOS 2017 (i.e. Hong Kong) whereas those who live in the host country will receive US$300.

  • Time Zone
    Hong Kong operates on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) + 8 hours, which is the same as various other Asia-Pacific nations including Mainland China, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore. 
     
  • Language
    Although native Cantonese is the most common language spoken in Hong Kong, both English and Mandarin Chinese are also widely used.
     
  • Weather
    In Hong Kong, the average high temperature in October is 28°C, with average lows of 24°C. Rain is infrequent in the autumn and the weather is not as humid. More information, including the most up-to-date forecast, is available via the Hong Kong Observatory.
     
  • Currency
    The currency used in Hong Kong is the Hong Kong dollar (HKD), which is available in notes and coins. Major currencies can be exchanged at most hotels, banks and licensed money changers. The Hong Kong dollar is pegged to the US dollar, with exchange rates averaging about 1 USD = 7.75 HKD.
     
  • Electricity
    The electrical current in Hong Kong is 220–240 volts AC at 50 cycles per second. Standard UK-type 3-pin plugs are used.
